I had to write a five page paper on that book and decided to write about the ghost motif that I found repeating throughout the book. It was due Friday night via email. About 11:00 or so, I hit the "send" button, packed up my things and went to bed. I spent that entire night plagued by fevers and nightmares. Saturday again was spent with fevers and constant dozing. Had I butchered the essay? Was this fever my punishment for the crime of finding ghosts in a story that weren't plainly there?
Was this the ghost of Raskolinov come to visit me? No silly! Ghosts are irrational and are only what people make them to be. It was just a bad tooth and an infection that I needed to pay more attention to. It was pulled yesterday.
It seems there is little time for anything these days. In fact, today I have a presentation all prepared about Municipal Landfills complete with a powerpoint slide show that I may have to give tonight. The professor is being very democratic and is just pulling names out of a hat to see who actually gives their presentation tonight, so I needed to be ready - no matter what.
Today I am going to my first SGA meeting at DCC. Ha, good old DCC. A school of acronyms! SGA is the Student Government Association and I am going to attend today's meeting with the SGA rep with the Lit Mag Club. Just want to see what goes on at these mandatory meetings, besides I have an attendance sheet and minutes for her to hand in for the club. To be a club at club at DCC, priority one is to keep SGA happy. They can freeze your budget and then what would the Lit Mag do? Our entire budget goes to printing the yearly issue, so if SGA wants minutes and attendance, then by George! We will give them minutes and attendance!
A special thanks goes out to Matthew Sharpe, author of Jamestown and The Sleeping Father (and others) for visiting DCC last week and giving us an most excellent reading of his newest book. Don't let this man's works pass you by. Add his books to your reading pile today!
I need to dive into my school reading pile right now. Luckily our next book in Pop Culture is Last Night a DJ Saved My Life. Worst this book could do is make me want to dance!
