Everyday in my inbox I get a few quotes. Sometimes they match the ones on the right side of your screen right now, sometimes not. Sometimes they match up later in the day, but that is not the point here. The point was today's email quote seemed to fit how I am feeling at DCC these days.
Every generation imagines itself to be more intelligent than the one that went before it, and wiser than the one that comes after it. - George Orwell
Nowhere is this more true than my Psychology class. In Psychology I am clearly the oldest person and besides the professor, I don't think anyone even comes close. In this class we seem to have a knack for disagreeing - with each other, the professor, general laws, etc., and yesterday was no exception. Then I saw this quote and of course, George Orwell is right!
I see it both at school and home, having two teenagers. Of course the newer generation thinks they are smarter than me, but I have what they don't have according to the quote - I have the wisdom that comes after and when I turned forty and finally felt that I had that wisdom, I never wished to be younger again. I'll take wiser over smarter any day!
Busy weekend coming up. Tonight at the Bardavon they will be showing Planet of the Apes on the big screen! I can hardly wait! We can all learn a lesson between smarts and wisdom from watching this movie.
Enjoy!
